Cooroy Police Update from Sgt Mal Scott
Update from Sargeant Mal Scott, Officer in Charge – Cooroy Police Station: Police have arrested and charged a 15 year old Cooroy youth for a further 13 offences committed late last week in the vicinity of Kauri, Miva and Diamond Streets, Cooroy. The offences include two charges of the Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, Unlawful Entering of Motor Vehicles, stealing, break and enter and wilful damage offences. Police are continuing their inquiries in regards to an incident that occurred at 6.15am on the 8/5/2020 when a 77 year old local man was threatened with a baseball bat by a youth in Diamond St, Cooroy whilst he was on his morning walk to pick up the local paper and bread.
Once again it is disappointing to report that the vast majority of these offences were made all the more easier to commit by vehicles being left unlocked and with ignition keys inside the vehicle. This is after police launched a campaign six weeks ago advising residents to lock their cars and houses due to the recent spate of offences. These latest crimes were again solved by information from the public together with CCTV footage and forensic evidence. Cooroy Police together with Detectives from the Noosa Child Protection Investigations Unit are working very hard to bring this situation under control so we are strongly appealing to the public to play their part and secure all property and to continue to report suspicious behaviour.
