The Forest Star Inc. is a monthly newsletter established with the support of the community in July 2007 by Jennifer Sadler and Liz Agerbeek. It is distributed free in the area known locally as “Forest Acres” and its intention is to act as a Community Building and Information tool by emphasizing old fashioned community values to enhance the sense of belonging in this neighborhood.
As a registered “not for profit organization”, advertising finances the costs of printing. This area doesn’t have any broadsheet or local free newspapers delivered, and most advertisers report back that using The Forest Star newsletter has substantially increased their business.
A Grant from the Gaming Community Benefit Fund to purchase a dedicated printer has enabled the distribution area to expand to include 180 properties from the junction of Lake Macdonald Drive in and around Forest Acres Drive and along Ringtail Creek Road. The newsletter is distributed by residents who also contribute articles on a monthly basis.
Advertising costs start from as little as $5.00 per month for a black and white business card size to full colour advertisements being charged in relation to the amount of colour used and the size of the advertisements. Articles of local interest are printed free of charge.
